WestJet Refund Policy
WestJet offers a flexible refund policy which helps various travel situations. From cancellations to flight changes, passengers can manage their bookings & get a refund. Read this AirCancellation page to get all the details on the WestJet refund rules.
What does the WestJet Refund Policy state?
-
WestJet permits cancellations within 24 hours of booking without any fees, provided the flight is at least 7 days later. All fares qualify for this refund as per the WestJet 24 Hour refund policy.
-
After the 24-hour window, cancellations come with fees based on fare type, destination, & travel date.
-
Tickets can be canceled up to two hours before departure. If check-in is completed, cancellations are not allowed as per the WestJet refund policy.
-
Basic fares are non-refundable in cash or credit beyond the initial 24 hours as per the WestJet Refund Policy.
-
Econo & Member Exclusive fares are not refunded after 24 hours. Instead, the remaining amount, minus a deduction of around $100 CAD/USD is issued as credit.
-
Business and Premium fares incur fees ranging from $300 to $600, with refunds processed to the original payment method.
-
PremiumFlex & BusinessFlex fares are fully refundable to the original payment method with no cancellation fees as per WestJet cancellation policy.
-
Travel credits cannot be used for WestJet vacation bookings. But voucher credits may be applied when booking flights through travel agents at 1-888-937-8538 or 1-888-826-0067.
What if I cancel WestJet flight outside 24 hour reservation?
Canceling a WestJet flight after the initial 24-hour window comes with specific conditions. UltraBasic fares hold no value once canceled, as they cannot be refunded or converted into travel credits as per the WestJet 24 hour cancellation policy.
For Econo, Premium, Business, and Member Exclusive fares on flights within North America (including Mexico, the Caribbean, & Central America), cancellations result in a $100 CAD/USD fee per person. The remaining balance is issued as a travel credit, with Member Exclusive fares partially refunded in WestJet dollars.
For flights beyond North America, Econo and Member Exclusive fares are subject to a $150 CAD/USD fee, while Premium fares incur a $300 CAD/USD charge. Business fares come with a $600 CAD/USD cancellation fee, with refunds provided as travel credits.
EconoFlex fares have no cancellation fee but are refunded only as credits. Albeit, PremiumFlex and BusinessFlex fares remain fully refundable to the original payment method without penalties.

Do I get money back if my WestJet flight was delayed?
Flight delays can be frustrating, but in some cases, compensation might be available. If your WestJet flight was to, from, or within Canada and the delay was within the airline’s control, you could get a refund or compensation. This is under the Air Passengers Protection Regulations. If WestJet informed you of the delay or cancellation within 14 days of departure, compensation options may vary as per the WestJet flight delay compensation policy.
There are also exceptions where cancellation fees might be waived entirely. If a passenger faces a severe illness, military deployment, or the loss of an immediate family member, WestJet may allow changes without penalties. In such cases, reaching out to WestJet Airlines customer support team at 1-888-937-8538 or 1-888-826-0067 is the best course of action.
What is the WestJet cancellation fee?
WestJet cancellation fees depend on the fare type and destination. For flights within Canada, Econo, Premium & Business fares carry a cancellation charge ranging from 100 to 118 CAD, while EconoFlex fares allow cancellations at no extra cost.
For flights between Canada and most international destinations, Econo fares are subject to a fee between 100 and 118 CAD/USD. While Premium & Business fares follow the same pricing structure. However, flights to Europe come with higher cancellation fees, Econo fares are charged between 150 & 177 CAD (or equivalent in EUR/GBP), while Premium fares range from 300 to 354 CAD. Business fares on these routes can cost between 600 & 708 CAD as per the WestJet cancellation policy.
Flights to Asia, excluding South Korea, follow a similar pattern, with Econo fares at 150-177 CAD, Premium at 300-354 CAD, and Business fares reaching up to 708 CAD, adjusted for local currencies.
If plans change and a refund is needed, WestJet refund policy offers a range of options depending on the fare type and circumstances. While cancellations may involve fees, passengers can often opt for travel credits or request refunds based on the situation. It is always helpful to check the policy by calling AirCancellation or WestJet at 1-888-937-8538 or 1-888-826-0067 at anytime of the day.
